June 6 @ St. Paul's UMC: Worship

Second Sunday after Pentecost

Today’s Meditation Verse: “We know that if the tent that we live in on earth is torn down, we have a building that isn’t handmade, which is eternal and located in heaven.”

--2 Corinthians 5:1 (CEB)

Welcome Pastor Charles

Prelude: “God of Wonders” Louise Cook

Call to Worship—Pastor Charles (Leader) and Amy Abshire (People)

Leader: You were not made for the sabbath, but the sabbath was made for you.

People: We choose to gather on this sabbath to worship, to pray, and to share with one another.

Leader: Jesus asked, “Is it lawful on the sabbath to good or to harm, to save life or to kill?”

People: We choose compassion and justice and healing. In this sabbath time together we choose life.

The Apostles Creed—Amy Abshire

I believe in God, the Father Almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, the only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; He descended to the dead. On the third day He rose again; He ascended into heaven, is seated at the right hand of the Father, and will come again to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

June 5th is National Gun Violence Prevention Day!

#WearOrange in support of this cause and learn more from our Gun Violence Prevention Faith and Facts Card.

The Faith and Facts cards are a set of half-sheet cards on a number of social issues. On any given issue, they explore what the Bible says, what The United Methodist Church says, some facts about the issue, and then action steps to address the issue. This particular card focuses on gun violence prevention.

Find it at this link.

Women's Summer Book Group Update

We selected Dusk, Night, Dawn–On Revival and Courage by Anne Lamott to read and discuss. We will meet on Thursdays from 3:00-4:30 p.m., beginning Thursday, June 17.

As of this writing, the options of meeting via Zoom or in person are still being considered. The goal is to make it safe and convenient while also acknowledging the desire to get back to some version of “normal.” It may be possible to arrange a combination of some sort; some good, knowledgeable minds are working on this.

If you’d like to participate and did not receive the earlier email, please let Judy know    (judy38waller@gmail.com)  and you’ll get any updated information.
