Devoted with Pride

June is celebrated as Pride month for the 2SLGBTQ+community and their allies (Two-spirit, lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, asexual, pansexual & other sexually & gender diverse identities).

Celebrate pride this year through daily devotions created by clergy and laity throughout the Mountain Sky Conference and beyond! “Devoted with PRIDE,” these devotions offer a rich diversity of perspectives for how our faith can call us into a better understanding of ourselves and into better allyship and relationship with 2SLGBTQ+ folks in our midst.

You can register here to receive these devotions in your e-mail inbox throughout the month of June. These devotions will also be included on the Mountain Sky Ministry Crossroads as a Workshop. You can join the “Devoted with PRIDE June 2021” workshop by clicking here to interact with others as you engage with each daily devotion.

There will be a community debrief & celebration session on June 27th at 7pm MST on Zoom. Details will be emailed closer to the event date.

Quinching the Thirst of Justice

As the body of Christ, we are called to be Thirst Quenchers. Our Great Redeemer provided an unforgettable example when he pronounced a blessing upon those who hunger and thirst for righteousness and set their expectation to be filled. While consuming food and drink is essential for our bodies, we must also nourish our souls.

Impactful churches excel at doing both and recognize the importance of caring for vulnerable members of society including the overlooked and underserved. They remember the orphan (youth), the widow (senior members of our community), the foreigner (immigrants), and the poor (the economically and socially disadvantaged). As the church protects and defends these community members, it must also give them voice.

Peace in the Middle East

The Israeli-Palestinian conflict has a long history of pain and terror perpetrated by many different actors. Since 1967, the Israeli government has been the occupying Power of the Palestinian territories. Under Israel’s continued military occupation, Palestinians have undergone gross injustices and human rights violations including the construction and expansion of Israeli settlements, restrictions of water rights, home demolitions, displacement of Palestinian civilians, transfer of Israeli settlers, and use of excessive force. While there are legitimate concerns for Israel’s security, measures to promote security and peace cannot be built on the occupation of the Palestinian people.

The United Methodist Church calls for an end to the Israeli occupation; we affirm our commitment to nonviolent responses and the inclusion of all voices harmed by the conflict – including Muslim, Christian and Jewish - in seeking a just and durable peace.

One of the most important days on the church calendar is coming next Sunday: Pentecost! In addition to taking in all of the red that will be present during our Zoom worship, we will hear the Word of God Romans 8:22-27 and from John 15:26-27; 16:4b-15.
