July 17 @ St. Paul's UMC: Announcements

We are continuing to require masks be worn during worship out of an abundance of caution given the state of the pandemic and the amount of travel taking place among our congregation's members.

The Peaks/Pikes Peak District is holding a Church Safety Team zoom call on July 21, 2022, Thursday, 6-7pm. A wide variety of topics (from First Aid Box to responding to an emergency circumstance) will be covered, and every church should find this event very helpful. This event is not exclusively for the clergy. It is being held in the evening because we want to make it convenient for as many people as possible to attend. Rick Hunt will lead the conversation. Rick is a long-time member of Sunrise UMC (Colorado Springs, CO). He serves as our Conference Safety Team leader.    The zoom link is here.

Mission U summer study “Bearing Witness in the Kin-dom" continues each Wednesday evening at 7 PM. Questions may be directed to Belinda Alkula. Find the online registration form here.

Hank Troy and Wende Harston will be with us in worship next Sunday.

St. Paul’s is sponsoring a food drive through Sunday, July 24, to help meet the urgent need at EFFA, where supplies in the food pantry are running very low. The greatest need is for canned tuna, canned fruit, canned chili, canned vegetables, cooking oils, dried chiles, and masa. Non-food items in short supply are toilet paper, shampoo, paper towels, toothpaste, dish soap, baby wipes, diapers, and laundry soap. Bring your donations to church. Alternatively, you can donate directly to EFFA via Amazon here.

BDT is offering a special ticket price for Sponge Bob the Musical during July--$55 per ticket. We need at least 12 participants to also get the amenities that go along with a group price. There is good availability for the Sunday matinee on either July 24 or 31 as well as Thursday evenings, July 21 or 28. It might be a chance for us to get to BDT one more (last?) time. Let Judy Waller know if you are interested, and if so, which of those dates would absolutely NOT work for you.

Prayer shawls are available for distribution - they are stored in the church office’s pantry, along with handouts explaining the prayer shawl ministry. Belinda Alkula maintains a spreadsheet detailing the first name of the recipients and a very brief explanation of the circumstance motivating the gift of one. For example, “Mary—Dealing with health issues” or “Sarah—Celebrating arrival of new baby.” Please send this information to Belinda Alkula when a prayer shawl is presented to family or friends.

Community Table needs volunteers each night to help hand out Grab and Go dinners to the unhoused and working poor in Boulder. It is outdoors, making it a safe activity during the pandemic; it is located at Grace Commons Annex, 1603 Walnut, from 4:45 to 5:45 p.m. Sign up here.

Recognizing one who went before us

A statue of Mary McLeod Bethune was installed yesterday in the U.S. Capitol Building’s Statuary Hall. People touched by the legacy of the Methodist civil rights leader and educator kicked off a week of celebration with worship at D.C.'s Asbury UMC, the congregation Bethune joined in 1937.
