The UMC and Mental Health

Health is whole. It is a state of complete physical, mental, spiritual and social well-being. The World Health Organization defines mental health as “a state of well-being in which the individual realizes his or her own abilities, can cope with the normal stresses of life, can work productively and fruitfully, and is able to make a contribution to his or her community.”

What do we mean by resurrection?

United Methodists affirm the Christian belief in the resurrection of the dead. Our doctrinal statements express this directly.

We affirm the resurrection of Jesus from the dead. "Christ did truly rise again from the dead, and took again his body, with all things appertaining to the perfection of man's nature"    (Article III, Articles of Religion)

We affirm the resurrection of all people who have ever died.

"We believe all men stand under the righteous judgment of Jesus Christ, both now and in the last day. We believe in the resurrection of the dead; the righteous to life eternal and the wicked to endless condemnation" (Article XII, Confession of Faith).

What exactly do we believe about resurrection? Or, put more directly, what is resurrection?

A Modern Affirmation of Faith (UMH #885): Amy Abshire

Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is the one true Church, apostolic and universal, whose holy faith let us now declare.
We believe in God the Father, infinite in wisdom, power and love, whose mercy is over all His works, and whose will is ever directed to His children's good. We believe in Jesus Christ, Son of God and Son of man,   the gift of the Father's unfailing grace, the ground of our hope, and the promise of our deliverance from sin and death. We believe in the Holy Spirit as the divine   presence in our lives, whereby we are kept in Perpetual remembrance of the truth of Christ and find strength and help in time of need. We believe that this faith should manifest itself in the service of love as set forth in the example of our blessed Lord, to the end that the kingdom of God may come upon the earth. Amen.
