From Susan Henry-Crowe, General Secretary of the General Board of Church and Society of the United Methodist Church:
“We are deeply saddened by the horrific fatal shooting in Buffalo. We condemn this racially motivated act of gun violence and domestic terror where the shooter easily accessed available assault weapons, ammunition, and military tactical gear.
As United Methodists, we take Christ’s words seriously “to love our neighbor as we love ourselves.”– Mark 12:31. We affirm that hate and racial terrorism have no place in our society. As Christians, we should unite to rid the influence of white supremacy, white nationalism and racism -- hate ideologies that severely veer from biblical teachings and The United Methodist Church’s Social Principles.
Please continue to pray for the families in Buffalo impacted by this tragic, hateful shooting. At GBCS we are pushing Congress to address gun violence and urging the United Methodist Church to continue to dismantle systemic racism and racial violence.”
