 Fourteenth Sunday after Pentecost

Today’s Meditation Verse: “I will multiply your descendants like the stars of heaven, and all this land that I have promised I will give to your descendants, and they shall inherit it forever.” —Exodus 32:13b

Welcome... Pastor Charles

Prelude... Hyeji Park / “O Steal Away Softly to Jesus” by W.J. Kirkpatrick

*Call to Worship (Psalm 14:1-2, 6-7)... Joey Vander Vorste

Fools say in their hearts, “There is no God.” They are corrupt, they do abominable deeds; there is no one who does good. The LORD looks down from heaven on humankind to see if there are any who are wise, who seek after God. You would confound the plans of the poor, but the LORD is their refuge. O that deliverance for Israel would come from Zion! When the LORD restores the fortunes of his people, Jacob will rejoice; Israel will be glad.

*Hymn... “There’s a Wideness in God’s Mercy” (UMH #121)

Litany of Peace (Book of Worship #520)... Joey Vander Vorste

Remember, Prince of Peace, the peoples of the world divided into many nations and tongues. Deliver us from every ill that obstructs Your saving purpose and fulfill Your promises of old to establish Your kingdom of peace. From the curse of war and all that create it, O Lord, deliver us. From believing and speaking lies against other nations, O Lord, deliver us. From narrow loyalties and selfish isolation, O Lord, deliver us. From fear and distrust of other nations, from all false  pride,   vainglory, and self-conceit, O Lord, deliver us. From the lust of the mighty for riches, that drives peaceful people to slaughter, O Lord, deliver us. From putting our trust in the weapons of war, and from want of faith in the power of justice and good will, O Lord, deliver us. From every thought, word, and deed that divides the human family and separates us from the perfect realization of your love. O Lord, deliver us.
