April 11 @ St. Paul's UMC: Worship

Incredulity of St. Thomas by Carravagio

Second Sunday of Easter

Today’s Meditation Verse: “Look at how good and pleasing it is when families live together as one.” – Psalm 133:1

Welcome—Pastor Charles

Prelude: Fairest Lord Jesus,” arr. by Eugenie Rocherolle, Suzanne P.

Call to Worship (Safiyah Fosua, UMC Discipleship Ministries)—Pastor Charles (Leader) and Bob M. (People)

Leader: It’s the Sunday after Easter; the lilies are gone.
People: And we are alone with our faith.
Leader: Thomas said: “Unless I see the mark of the nails in his hands and put my finger in the mark of the nails and my hand in his side, I will not believe” (John 20:25b, NRSV).       People: Easter is past, and we are alone with our faith. On this Sunday after Easter, help us grow into the faith that we confessed and celebrated last week. Reveal evidence of Your resurrection for the days when we feel that we are alone with our faith.

Hymn: In the GardenVerses 1 & 2 led by Lorie C. and Ron R.

Prayer after Easter (Author unknown)–Bob M.

Draw us forth, God of all creation. Draw us forward and away from limited certainty into the immense world of Your love. Give us the capacity to even for a moment taste the richness of the feast You give us. Give us the peace to live with uncertainty, with questions, with doubts. Help us to experience the resurrection anew with open wonder and an increasing ability to see You in the people of Easter.
