Emergency Response Team (ERT) Help Needed in Boulder County

It's been two weeks since the Marshall fire burned over 1000 residences in Boulder, CO. A lot of preparation has been going on for what will be a long recovery process.  Our conference has responded with over $20,000 in donations to the conference disaster fund.

Our churches in the area were not damaged, and no pastor lost a residence, but members of several area churches are among the survivors who have lost homes. The major cleanup of debris and ashes will be done by Boulder County, so we are not needed for that heavy and dangerous work. Volunteer organizations like ours may now go in with homeowners to sift ashes looking for valuables or memorabilia, so we want to form several small teams to help. Due to COVID concerns, we are asking for volunteers from just the Denver Metro area. Our teams will drive in from their homes and drive back home each night. If you live within driving distance of Boulder, we invite you to fill in a web form to say when you are available. We will then form teams which may change from day to day. As we learned in our trainings, ashes contain toxins, so we will provide Tyvek suits, nitrile gloves, N95 masks and everyone will get a refresher in safety before starting work. COVID safety concerns mean that we will restrict this callup to those who have been vaccinated and/or boosted against COVID19-Sars2 (see criteria below). Also, each individual will be asked to bring their own lunch and snacks.

We expect this work to be draining physically and emotionally. Please prayerfully consider your participation. If you would like to be part of this effort, fill in this form indicating your availability from January 24th to February 2nd (more days could be added later if needed).

If you are not in the area or not able to commit to this call, please consider giving a contribution to the disaster fund (click the box labeled 'Conference designated giving' and select "Disaster Response Fund').

Thank you,

Jim Robison-Cox
