And they came to a place named Gethsemane. And he said to his disciples, “Sit here, while I go apart and pray.” And he took with him Peter, James, and John. And he began to be horrified, and to be in an agony, and said to them, “My soul is very heavy, even to the death. You stay here and watch.” And he went forward a little, and fell down on the ground and prayed that, if it were possible, the hour might pass from him. And he said, “Abba, Father, all things are possible to you; take away this cup from me. Nevertheless, not what I will, but what you will, be done.” And he came and found them sleeping and said to Peter, “Simon, are you sleeping? Could not you watch with me one hour? Watch and pray, lest you enter into temptation.
The spirit is ready, but the flesh is weak.” And again he went away and prayed, and spoke the same words. And he returned and found them asleep again, for their eyes were heavy; neither did they know what to answer him. And he came the third time, and said to them, “Sleep on now, and take your ease! It is enough. The hour has come. Behold, the Son of man will be delivered into the hands of sinners. Rise up, let us go. Lo, he who betrays me is at hand.”
