There may be questions about churches planning on leaving The United Methodist Church, a process known as disaffilliation. The following information is provided by The Mountain Sky Conference:
Disaffiliation Process
On May 11, The Mountain Sky Conference informed our members of decisions made by the Trustees of the conference. The Trustees of The Mountain Sky Conference have approved a disaffiliation process that will provide a clear and concise way for churches to disaffiliate while providing stability to the conference in this time of transition.
These instructions are only for those churches who wish to leave The United Methodist Church. NO action or vote is needed to remain United Methodist.
Three years ago, at the 2019 General Conference, actions were taken regarding disaffiliation. At that time, the delegates to the 2019 General Conference voted to approve a grace-filled way for congregations to disaffiliate from The United Methodist Church based on "reasons of conscience regarding a change in the requirements and provisions of the Book of Discipline related to the practice of homosexuality or the ordination or marriage of self-avowed practicing homosexuals as resolved and adopted by the 2019 General Conference, or the actions or inactions of its annual conference related to these issues which follow.”
To learn more about the process of disaffiliation please click the links below for more details. If your church decides to act, the process must begin with a submitted application by June 15, 2022.
