Time to think about Advent?

In the heat of August, it may seem odd to be thinking about Advent and Christmas, but that is what we are already doing at St. Paul's UMC! Pastor Charles is inviting the congregation to take part in preparing entries for the fifth annual Advent & Christmas devotional. Advent begins on Sunday December 3, and you are invited to take part in the season of anticipation and celebration with a devotional that will be shared with the community.

This year's theme is the names and titles given or ascribed to Jesus. There are many of these names and titles found in the scriptures. Some of these are well known such as the Messiah and the Son of God. Others are less well known such as Dayspring and Lion of Judah. When we name or describe the One whom we follow, we are joining Christians across the centuries in sharing what we believe about this Jesus of Nazareth.

Three easy steps:

1. Select any one of the multitude of names or titles that speak to the theme of this special season.

2. Write a one-two paragraph reflection on what that name or title means to you.

3. Submit it to the church office by November 15 either in writing or via email

A sign-up list will be available on the usher's table at the back of the sanctuary on September 3. You may also call the office (303-484-0615) or email the office with your choice. If someone else has already chosen that name/title you will be asked to make a new selection. Entries are needed for December 3 - 24. Pastor Charles will prepare entries for the Twelve Days of Christmas and the Day of Epiphany (December 25 - January 6).

Print copies of the devotional will be available on November 24th. We will post daily entries on this blog and on Facebook each day of Advent (beginning December 3) and concluding on the Day of Epiphany (January 6).
