Methodism 101: UMM & UMW

United Methodist Men (UMM): The mission of the UMM is "To Help Men Grow In Christ, So Others May Know Christ."

The ministry of men in the local church is defined as a core group of men, partnering with their pastor, to invite and initiate spiritual growth opportunities for all men of the church. Everyone has different gifts, graces and areas of interest. Therefore, opportunities for participation would include diverse ministries of the church, such as prayer groups, missions, Bible studies, retreats, workshops/seminars, small groups in the Wesleyan tradition, leading and participating on committees, teaching Sunday school classes, youth ministries, scouting, mentoring and assisting in leading worship service. The focus is not inward, concentrating only on those who attend a set meeting, but outward to all men, assisting them to engage the process of spiritual growth.

United Methodist Women
(UMW):
The Book of Discipline of The United Methodist Church 2016, states, “In every local church there shall be an organized unit of United Methodist Women(¶256.5).

"The organized unit of United Methodist Women shall be a community of women whose purpose is to know God and to experience freedom as whole persons through Jesus Christ; to develop a creative, supportive fellowship; and to expand concepts of mission through participation in the global ministries of the church." - UMW Purpose

The UMW is the largest faith-based membership organization of laywomen in the United States. It is organized for mission and with members who are committed to growing as disciples of Jesus Christ in community with other women and building the lives of women, children and youth. United Methodist Women has been in mission for more than 150 years.
