On the eve of the national election

First of all, then, I ask that requests, prayers, petitions, and thanksgiving be made for all people.
1 Timothy 2:1 (CEB)

"For let us consider, that they who blesses their enemy, blesses themselves, they who curse their enemy curse themselves, and they who prays for their enemy, prays not for them, but for themselves. If we do this, we will be able to reduce to practice this excellent virtue, and obtain the promised blessings, through the grace and loving kindness of our Lord Jesus Christ.”

St. John Chrysostom (347-407)

Almighty God, to whom we must account for all our powers

and privileges: Guide the people of the United States (or of
this community) in the election of officials and representatives;
that, by faithful administration and wise laws, the rights of
all may be protected and our nation be enabled to fulfill Your
purposes; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

 The Book of Common Prayer, 1979
