Devotional for the Fourth Sunday of Advent

UMH #221

Oddly enough this hymn reminds me of horses. The first time I ever heard it was in a cartoon about wild horses. Ever since, “In The Bleak Midwinter” has given me a warm, cozy feeling. In the cartoon this song plays on Christmas Eve as the main characters are saving a wild herd of horses from starving in the lifeless plains blanketed by snow. When I hear or sing this song I can’t help but smile because it gives me happy thoughts of wonderful things like horses and people who do things like save starving horses on Christmas Eve in the frosty weather. Despite the fact that “snow has fallen, snow on snow” we should do kind things like saving horses and sing lovely carols like “In the Bleak Midwinter.”
