Devotional for the Third Sunday of Advent

Excerpt from “That’s the Way the Christmas Cookie Crumbles”
(St. Paul’s Christmas Pageant 2014)

Lily: We have to put a few cookies on each plate and wrap it in plastic wrap so it’s ready for the caroling.

Tyler: Do you think God really cares about Christmas cookies?

Ella: I don’t think there are any cookies in the Bible.  There’s bread, like at Communion.

Ben:  We should have cookies at Communion!

Lily: I think the cookies are like Communion, in a way. I mean, God gave us his Son, Jesus, to show us his love. That’s why we celebrate Christmas. And during Communion we remember that Jesus gave his life for us.

Josie: But Jesus isn’t a cookie!

Lily: But we give people Christmas cookies to show love to them.

Ben: God didn’t just say in a really loud voice, “I love you.” He showed us by sending Jesus.

Jordan: So we show people by giving them Christmas cookies.

Lily: I think so. And in other ways, too.
