The triumphant cross is basically a Latin cross (basic cross) on top of a circle or orb. It symbolizes Christ’s sacrifice for the salvation of the world (the orb). Christ is the Savior of the World who overcame the mundane problems of the world and has readied a place for His followers in Heaven. The triumphant cross also reminds us that Christianity can help the world.
Versions
of the triumphant cross are used in many different ways. Many of the world’s
kings and queens hold an orbed scepter topped by a cross. This symbolizes
that he or she is the titular head of state and the defender of the
faith.
In days before Christianity, pagan rulers held a scepter with an orb to symbolize their power over the world. Christian rulers adopted this scepter but added the cross at the top to display Christ’s dominion over both the world and paganism.
