Devotional for December 6

The Celtic Cross

As I was trying to decide which cross to choose, I looked up the meaning of each different cross as well as a picture. I know that early Christians used many symbols to secretly identify themselves to other believers. The Celtic cross has a circle around the crossed sections of the cross. A circle has no end, and this symbolizes our eternal life in Jesus. Celtic knots, which usually decorate these crosses, also have no beginning or end.

My reading referenced John 3:36: “Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life, but whoever rejects the Son will not see life, for God’s wrath remains on him.”

I like the present tense of this verse: has eternal life not will have eternal life. Just like the wedding band has no end, our eternal life, once received, has no end. We are wed to our Lord, we are tied to Him for all eternity. Thank goodness!
